Privacy Policy

The short version

• Text you paste into a tool never leaves your browser. There is no server that could receive it.
• No cookies are set by this site, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
• Analytics is off by default, and cannot receive your input even when on.
• Advertising is off. What changes if it is enabled is described below.

Your input never leaves your browser

This site is a set of static files. There is no backend, no database, no API and no server-side code of any kind. When you paste JSON into the formatter or a query into the SQL tool, that text is processed by JavaScript running on your own machine.

This is a structural guarantee rather than a policy. The site could not transmit your input if it wanted to, because there is nowhere for it to be sent. The only third-party code loaded beyond the site's own framework is a YAML parser, and it runs entirely in your browser: it makes no network requests of its own.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookies. It uses your browser's localStorage for two things, and both stay on your device:

• Your theme choice. Remembering whether you picked light or dark is what stops the site flashing the other one on your next visit.
• The tools you have opened recently, so the homepage can put them back within reach. This stores the tool's name only — for example json-formatter. It is not an identifier, there is no profile behind it, and nothing about what you pasted into a tool is kept.

Neither value is ever transmitted. Clearing your browser data removes both, and the only cost of doing so is a lost theme choice and an empty “recently used” list.

Analytics

Analytics is disabled. If it is ever enabled, it will be configured to record which tool pages are viewed and nothing else. The analytics integration accepts only page names, event names and counts — there is deliberately no way for it to be given anything you type, so your input cannot reach an analytics request even by accident.

Enabling analytics would introduce a third party and would most likely require a cookie notice. This page would be updated in the same change that enabled it, not afterwards.

Advertising

There is no advertising on this site at present. Advertising is planned as the way the site pays for its hosting, and this section exists so that enabling it is a documented change rather than a surprise.

If advertising is enabled, the following will be true:

• Your tool input still never leaves your browser. Ads are served alongside the tool, not inside it, and they are not given access to anything you type.
• A third party will set cookies and may use them to serve and measure advertising, and that third party will have its own privacy policy.
• A consent notice will appear before any advertising is served, and no ad will be requested until you have responded to it.
• No advertising will appear in an error state, an empty state, or the results area of a tool.

Third parties

• Fonts are served from this site. There is no Google Fonts or other font CDN, so visiting a tool page does not tell anyone which page you visited.
• There are no third-party scripts of any kind, at present. Analytics and advertising would be the only exceptions, and both are described above.

Children

This site is a collection of developer utilities. It is not directed at children and it collects nothing from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If anything on this page changes, the change lands with the code that causes it. A policy that describes a system which no longer behaves is a false document, and the date at the top of this page is there so you can tell how current it is.
